Help you get a better job
Today the process involved in applying for and getting a job almost always means two things. First, you must answer the question, “Have you ever been convicted of a Felony or Misdemeanor?” Answering this question “Yes”, will often mean you are automatically denied employment, and in many instances you are never even granted an interview. In the alternative, if you have been convicted of either a Felony or a Misdemeanor and chose to answer “No” you face the possibility of being seen as untruthful when your potential employer does a background check.
Second, employers will almost always complete a background check of you. Criminal records have always been public record, and thus available for potential employers to view, but they were not organized and difficult to find. This all changed about a decade ago when companies created vast data bases and indexed past criminal convictions by name and date of birth. Today most companies are able to view your criminal record by simply going on line and entering your basic information. Within minutes they know whether you have ever been convicted of either a felony or misdemeanor. Companies often take your criminal history into account when deciding whether or not to offer you employment.
Expungement of your criminal record by a California Expungement Attorney can help you solve both of these issues. Under California law once you have your criminal record expunged, and you are applying for employment with a private employer, you may answer “No” when asked if you have ever been convicted of a Misdemeanor or Felony. When applying for a job with a government agency or employer you may answer “Yes, conviction dismissed.” California law prohibits government employers from discriminating against you when you answer in this manner.
There are three exceptions 1) when applying to be a peace officer, 2) attempting to contract with the state lottery, and 3) if you want to apply for a state license. When dealing with these situations you must disclose your past criminal record. However, they will view an expunged conviction more favorably.

Allow you to get a State License
Expungement in California does not relieve you of the duty to disclose past criminal convictions when applying for State Licenses. However, most State License Boards require you to have any past criminal convictions expunged before you can be approved for their license. Having your criminal record expunged before you apply for a State License means you are likely to be approved faster and shows the licensing board you have taken the initiative to take care of this requirement before they ask.

Join professional organizations
Joining and belonging to professional organizations can better your career. They help you build a resume and are a good networking tool. Many of these professional organizations will also complete a background check before admitting you or before you are able to hold an official position or seat. Having your criminal record expunged by a California Expungement Attorney will help avoid being unable to participate fully in these beneficial organizations.
